Kid Pickup vs Kids Pick Up

The names are a letter apart and the apps are for different people. Kids Pick Up is a dismissal system a school registers for: teachers scan a guardian’s QR code at the gate. Kid Pickup is for your family: which of your people is picking up today, at school and everywhere else. If your school told you to install Kids Pick Up, this page isn’t it, and the two work fine side by side.

Kids Pick Up

A QR-code school dismissal system from Ommka LLC. The school registers; teachers scan a guardian’s QR code to release the child to them.

What it does well

  • Matches the right child to the right guardian at the gate, with a digital record of every dismissal.
  • A live dashboard for administrators, and a 90-day free trial for the school.
  • Parents only need the QR code the school issues; no walkie-talkies or car-line radios.

Where it stops

  • Only works if your school registers. A parent can’t use it on their own.
  • It covers the school gate, not swim, hockey or a friend’s house, and not which of your people is going today.
  • The App Store listing had 5 ratings as of October 21, 2026.

What Kid Pickup does instead

  • For families, not schools. Nobody at the school has to sign up or do anything.
  • Every pickup gets one person who said “I’ll do it”: you, the other parent, Grandma or the sitter.
  • If nobody has a pickup, the app sends parents and guardians a nudge the day before, three hours out and two hours out.
  • Every place your kids go: school, daycare, the rink, the studio, a friend’s house.
  • A family calendar, a private family feed and family chat, with sitters who see only their pickups.
  • Never asks for anyone’s location, and has no QR codes.

Who should pick which

Use Kids Pick Up if your school has registered for it. It’s the school’s system, it’s free for you, and only the school can set it up.

Use Kid Pickup to settle who in your family is going, at every school and activity, with a nudge when nobody has it. Many families will use both: the school’s app at the gate, Kid Pickup for who’s driving.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Is Kid Pickup the same as Kids Pick Up?

No. Kids Pick Up is a QR-code school dismissal system from Ommka LLC that a school registers for. Kid Pickup is a family app from Think X Design Media for deciding who’s picking up the kids. They are made by different companies and do different jobs.

My school told me to use Kids Pick Up. Do I need Kid Pickup too?

Only if you want help with the family side: which parent, grandparent or sitter is going, at school and at every activity, and a nudge when nobody has said yes. Kids Pick Up handles the gate; Kid Pickup handles who’s going.

Where do I log in to Kids Pick Up?

On the Kids Pick Up App website, or in the Kids Pick Up app your school asked you to install. Kid Pickup has no QR codes and no school login; if you’re looking for a school dismissal login, you’re on the wrong site.

Can I use both?

Yes. They don’t connect, and they don’t need to. The school’s app releases your child to the right adult; Kid Pickup is how your family decided who that adult would be.
