We want everyone in a family's circle to be able to use Kid Pickup, whatever their eyesight, hearing, movement or reading. We aim for the website, the iPhone app and Kid Pickup in a web browser to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we do
The website's pages are plain HTML with headings in order, text alternatives for pictures, and labels on form fields, so they work with screen readers and without a mouse.
In the app, text follows the size you choose in your iPhone's settings, and the tab bar's sliding highlight stops moving when Reduce Motion is on.
Nothing in Kid Pickup depends on colour alone to say whether a pickup needs someone: it's also written on the card.
What we know isn't there yet
The plans screen in the app has slides that move on their own every few seconds, and there's no button to pause them.
A few small pictures in the app, such as avatar emoji, don't grow with your text size.
We haven't had an independent accessibility audit, and we haven't checked every screen of the app with VoiceOver.
The printable sheets from our free tools haven't been checked with screen readers.
We're working through these, and we'd rather hear about a problem than not.
Tell us about a problem
If something in Kid Pickup is hard to use, or you'd like information in another format, tell us. We reply within two business days, and usually sooner.
