Cozi vs Skylight

One lives on the kitchen wall, the other on everyone’s phone. Here’s what each costs, what it does well, and which kind of family each suits.

Last checked

Cozi

A shared family organizer: calendar, reminders, shopping and to-do lists, and a recipe box.

What it does well

  • A big, well-loved family organizer: rated 4.8 on about 400,000 App Store ratings.
  • A free version with the core features.
  • Calendar, reminders, lists and recipes in one place, and it can subscribe to school and work calendars.

Where it stops

  • The family shares one account: each person signs in with their own email and the one shared password.
  • The free version shows ads, and only lets you add events 30 days ahead from the Agenda view; month view on mobile is Gold.
  • No chat, and nothing built around getting one person to say yes to a pickup.

Skylight

A touchscreen family calendar for the wall, with a mobile app.

What it does well

  • The week, chores and lists on a screen in the kitchen, where the kids see it.
  • Syncs with your other calendars; Calendar Plus imports events from school emails you forward (Sidekick).
  • Its app is rated 4.8 on about 52,000 ratings.

Where it stops

  • You buy the display: from $149.99 (10-inch) to $569.99 (27-inch Calendar Max).
  • Meal planning, Sidekick and rewards need Calendar Plus, $79 a year.

Where Kid Pickup fits

  • Every pickup and drop-off gets one person who said “I’ll do it”, or stands out as open until someone does.
  • If nobody has a pickup, the app sends parents and guardians a nudge the day before, three hours out and two hours out.
  • Grandparents and sitters sign in as themselves; a sitter sees only open pickups and their own.
  • Its calendar feed can be added to Apple or Google Calendar, so it sits alongside whichever of these you choose.

Who should pick which

Choose Skylight if you want the week on a screen in the kitchen, with chores the kids can see. Choose Cozi if you want the calendar and lists on everyone’s phone for little or nothing.

Add Kid Pickup to get one person on every pickup, with grandparents and sitters signed in as themselves.

Wall or phone

Skylight is built around the display: the family calendar, chores and lists on a screen in the kitchen, with a mobile app beside it. Cozi is built around the phone: everyone has the calendar and lists in their pocket, and on the web.

Getting events in

Both sync with your other calendars. Skylight Plus adds Sidekick, which imports events from school emails you forward to it. Cozi Max adds AI event import. Cozi’s free version lets you subscribe to school and team calendars by link.

Kids

Skylight is strongest with younger children: chore charts and rewards on a screen they walk past. Cozi’s lists can do chores too, but they live on a phone the kids may not have.

Where Kid Pickup fits

A wall calendar shows who’s meant to be where; it can’t chase a pickup nobody has said yes to. Kid Pickup does that part, with grandparents and sitters signed in as themselves. Its calendar feed can be added to the Apple or Google calendars that Skylight and Cozi sync with.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Is Skylight worth it over Cozi?

If a calendar on the wall is what gets your family to look at it, yes. If everyone checks their phone anyway, Cozi does the calendar and lists without buying a display.

How much does Skylight cost?

Displays start at $149.99 for the 10-inch, up to $569.99 for the 27-inch Calendar Max, on Skylight’s compare page. Calendar Plus is $79 a year.

Does Skylight need a subscription?

Without one, the display syncs your calendars and has a chore chart and lists. Calendar Plus ($79 a year) adds meal planning, Sidekick email import, a photo screensaver and rewards.
