Cozi vs TimeTree
Two of the best-known free family calendar apps, built for slightly different families. Here’s how they compare on the calendar, lists, logins and price, with every fact linked to its source.
Last checked
Cozi
A shared family organizer: calendar, reminders, shopping and to-do lists, and a recipe box.
What it does well
- A big, well-loved family organizer: rated 4.8 on about 400,000 App Store ratings.
- A free version with the core features.
- Calendar, reminders, lists and recipes in one place, and it can subscribe to school and work calendars.
Where it stops
- The family shares one account: each person signs in with their own email and the one shared password.
- The free version shows ads, and only lets you add events 30 days ahead from the Agenda view; month view on mobile is Gold.
- No chat, and nothing built around getting one person to say yes to a pickup.
TimeTree
A shared calendar for a family, a couple or a group, with a chat inside each event.
What it does well
- Chat inside each event, so the conversation stays with the plan.
- Several calendars side by side (family, couple, work).
- iPhone, Android, the web and Apple Watch. Rated 4.8 on about 93,000 ratings.
Where it stops
- The free version shows ads; Premium removes them.
- Memos and to-dos, but no recipe box or meal planning.
Where Kid Pickup fits
- Every pickup and drop-off gets one person who said “I’ll do it”, or stands out as open until someone does.
- If nobody has a pickup, the app sends parents and guardians a nudge the day before, three hours out and two hours out.
- Grandparents and sitters sign in as themselves; a sitter sees only open pickups and their own.
- Its calendar feed can be added to Apple or Google Calendar, so it sits alongside whichever of these you choose.
Who should pick which
Choose Cozi for shopping lists, to-dos and recipes alongside the calendar. Choose TimeTree for a shared calendar with chat inside each event and no limit on how far ahead you can add things.
Add Kid Pickup if the problem isn’t the calendar but who’s getting the kids, especially with grandparents or a sitter helping.
Pricing side by side

Calendar
Both do a shared, colour-coded calendar. Cozi’s free version only lets you add events 30 days ahead from the Agenda view, and the month view on mobile is a Gold feature. TimeTree’s free calendar has no such limit; Premium adds an hour-by-hour view, pinned events and file attachments.
Lists and meals
Here Cozi is clearly ahead: shopping and to-do lists, a recipe box and, with Cozi Max ($79 a year), an AI meal planner. TimeTree has memos and to-dos, but no recipe box or meal planning.
Talking about plans
TimeTree puts a chat inside each event, so “who’s bringing the snacks?” stays with the game it’s about. Cozi has no chat; it sends notifications when events change.
Logins and who sees what
Cozi is one family account: each person uses their own email address with the one shared password. TimeTree lets you run several calendars side by side (family, couple, work) and share each with different people.
Price
| Free | Paid | |
|---|---|---|
| Cozi | Yes, with ads | Gold $39/yr, Max $79/yr (Cozi’s plans page; the App Store lists other Gold prices too) |
| TimeTree | Yes, with ads | Premium $4.49/mo or $44.99/yr, first month free |
What neither does
Neither is built to get one person to say yes to a pickup and to chase it when nobody has. If that’s the hole in your week, that’s what Kid Pickup does, and it can sit alongside either.
